You may be a candidate for a facelift if you have sagging skin or wrinkles in the area running from your nose to you mouth, your cheek or jowl area. Loose skin and wrinkles in the neck area may also be an issue that bothers a facelift candidate. Dr. Kearney will examine your hairline during your consultation to help determine incision placement, as well as discuss procedures that are often performed in conjunction with a facelift such as an eyelid lift or brow lift. Dr. Kearney almost always includes a neck lift when performing facelift procedures. A neck lift can be done as a separate procedure in select candidates.
Dr. Kearney makes the incisions within the hairline and following the natural contour of inside and around the ear. Excess skin and tissue are pulled up and back and then removed. Dr. Kearney’s facelift tightens not only the excess surface skin, but the underlying muscle as well. After surgery, incisions usually fade to nearly unnoticeable or can be hidden by the hairline. Dr. Kearney prefers his facelifts be performed under local anesthesia with light sedation or general anesthesia if the patient prefers. You may go home the same day. Most patients return to work about 7-10 days following a facelift and are back to normal activities within 3-4 weeks.

WHO IS A CANDIDATE?
If you consider your chin small, you may benefit from surgery. Having a larger (or "stronger") chin can help balance one's appearance, creating equal weight in the upper, middle, and lower thirds of the face. It can offset the prominence of a large or even medium-sized nose. Enlarging the chin can also make the neck look longer and more graceful, and this can be a helpful addition to a facelift when there is blunting of the angle between lower neck and the under-chin region.
WHAT CHANGES CAN BE EXPECTED?
The chin will protrude further from the face. In some people this can make a substantial change in their overall facial appearance. The hollow between the lower lip and the chin may become deeper.
HOW IS CHIN AUGMENTATION DONE?
There are two ways: 1) A plastic implant can be placed via an incision under the chin or one in the mouth. 2) By way of an incision in front of the lower teeth, the bony chin can be cut free from the lower jaw and slid forward. This is a way of using the body's own tissues to produce the desired change. Either way,the operation is usually done under general anesthesia.
AFTERCARE
Tapes are placed around the advanced chin for a few days. Mild narcotics are given for pain, usually for 3 or 4 days. If there is a wound in the mouth, you will be on a liquid diet for two days and then soft foods for a few days.

Facial cosmetic surgery takes many forms. Many men and women desire facial procedures aimed at facial rejuvenation such as eyelid surgery, facelifts and neck lifts. Others seek a change in the size or shape of a specific facial feature that has always bothered them such as their nose, ears, or chin. Non-surgical procedures are also available to minimize fine lines and wrinkles and to maintain a youthful appearance.
Face Lift - also known as Rhytidectomy, smoothes the loose skin on your face and neck, tightens underlying tissues and removes excess fat. It can be performed with other facial procedures such as Blepharoplasty and brow lift to maximally enhance ones appearance. Frequently these procedures are done in combination, as the affects of aging are universal on the face and eyes. As a result, your face will appear younger.
Brow Lift - can minimize some of the most visible signs: drooping eyebrows, "hooding" over the eyes, forehead furrows and frown lines that come with age. With a brow lift, the muscles and skin that cause the problems are removed or altered to smooth the forehead, raise the upper eyelids and minimize frown lines. The result can be a more alert, youthful appearance.
Eyelid Lift - or Blepharoplasty removes excess skin and fat from the upper and/or lower lids smoothing and rejuvenating the eye area. It can also correct a drooping upper lid or raise a drooping lower lid. The result is a more alert and rested appearance.
Nose Rhinoplasty - can enhance the shape, size and general appearance of your nose. One that fits your face and achieves a harmonious balance with your other facial features is desirable. If you feel that your nose is not a good fit, you may benefit from cosmetic surgery of the nose.
A Forehead Lift is recommended if you have a sagging forehead or brows that hang too low and too close to your eyes. If you have deep vertical furrows between the eyebrows (frown lines). This procedure will create a more youthful and rested appearance to the forehead and upper eyelids.
This procedure is done on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia. Several short incisions are placed in the hairline. The operation is done using an endoscope (a narrow, hollow instrument with a fiber optic light source and camera, through which the procedure is done with small special instruments). The forehead skin is lifted and repositioned. The muscles that cause frown lines are weakened. Additional procedures that may enhance the result are Lower and/or Upper Eyelid Lift, Face Lift, or other facial procedures or implants.

You may be a candidate for eyelid surgery in San Francisco if you have excessive, sagging, or wrinkled upper or lower eyelid skin. Eyelid lift can also be helpful if you have excess upper eyelid skin that interferes with vision or if you have lost your natural upper eyelid crease. Eyelid lift may also be indicated if you have puffy pouches of fat in the upper or lower lids that create a tired or aged appearance. The eyelid lift (blepharoplasty) procedure is intended to produce a more youthful and rested appearance of the eyes. The procedure may also widen your visual fields if excessive upper lid skin has partially blocked vision. Blepharoplasty is done on an outpatient basis under sedation and local or general anesthesia. The incisions are made where the natural crease should be in the upper lids and below the lash line in the lower lids. Excess fat and skin are removed. If only excess fat is present in the lower lids, it may be removed through an incision inside the lower lids with no external incision or scar (transconjunctival blepharoplasty).
